■ Transmission
Electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission
All models are equipped with the SPORTSHIFT 4-speed AT gear selection. Selector lever operation has been enhanced by the redesigned selector lever positions and the use of roller bearings. In addition, densification of the hydraulic pressure required for AT for engine torque has optimised the required hydraulic pressure and reduced torque on the AT oil pump. Low-viscosity ATF was newly developed to improve fuel efficiency.
5-speed manual transmission with dual-range
Driving performance and feeling have been improved by reducing friction among transmission part assemblies.
Change in engine position
An expanded road clearance further improves the drivability of the vehicle, while low centre of gravity is attained by mounting the engine low in the vehicle. This allows outstanding vehicle stability even in an SUV.
Active Torque Split AWD (in models with automatic transmission)
Basic torque distribution to the front and rear wheels controls the hydraulic multiple-disc clutch according to driving conditions. In addition, in-vehicle LAN is used to detect wheel speed, engine output, and VDC conditions in real time, precisely analyse surface and driving conditions, constantly control optimum torque distribution according to coordinated control with VDC, and maintain superior traction and vehicle stability.
Centre differential AWD with viscous LSD (in models with manual transmission)
Basic torque distribution to the front and rear wheels is set by the centre differential with bevel gears, and differences in speed are absorbed/suppressed by the viscous LSD, achieving continual driving stability.
■ VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control)
VDC, which assists the superior driving stability of symmetrical AWD, is standard on all models. Fed by information gathered by sensors that monitor vehicle and road conditions for VDC control (engine control and brake control to prevent lateral slipping), TCS control (engine control and brake LSD for traction control), and ABS control (anti-lock brakes) for driving stability.
